Here’s something you don’t hear often: a free engine warranty programme worth 12 years or 200,000km (from the vehicle’s manufacturing date) if you choose Shell Helix. SHEW or Shell Helix Engine Warranty is the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia and is shrewdly (couldn’t help it) devised to offer a peace of mind to users while expanding Shell Helix’s footprint in the highly competitive engine lube market.
To be eligible, your car must first be below the age of eight years or with less than 100,000km on the clock, registered for personal or private use. The warranty programme begins 30 days or 1,000km after your car undergoes an oil change at any authorised SHEW workshop (can be done on the spot), or when you purchase Shell Helix Ultra or Helix HX7 engine oil from any Shell petrol station (oil change can be done at any workshop of your own choosing) and thereafter activate the warranty by calling the SHEW hotline or registering online. No inspection of the vehicle is required and the warranty can be transferred to subsequent owners.
While we can imagine the terms and conditions must be as long as the hydrocarbon chains that exist within Helix lubricants, Shell is confident enough to provide coverage for 15 different key components within the engine, they include pistons, crankshaft and bearings, valves, camshafts, cylinder head, engine block, and even the turbocharger.
As long as the failure is ‘lubricant-caused’, i.e. failure on account of engine wear because Shell Helix Ultra or Helix HX7 failed to provide proper lubrication to parts covered by the warranty, a claim of up RM15,000 (Helix Ultra) or RM8,000 (Helix HX7) can be made (limited to once every 12 months) subject to assessment by panel workshops and approval by Shell.
Hmmm, we wonder if Vettel’s F12 Berlinetta is covered by SHEW as well?
