Porsche 918: Flat out in the outback

"Step into my parlour" said the Spyder to the Kangaroo. Porsche 918 pounds the tarmac in Down Under

What do the Eastern Grey Kangaroo and the Porsche 918 Spyder have in common? They’re the fastest things on two feet and four wheels respectively, in the Australian outback.

On a 270km stretch of the Stuart Highway that carves across the Continent from Darwin to Port Augusta lies a piece of highway that is designated “open speed limit”. Who says only Germans know how to have fun?

So Porsche decided that it would be a very good idea to unleash the 918 Spyder so that we could all see what the Northern Territory looks like at 350 km/h. So if you thought a didgeridoo sounded sweet in the outback, try 887hp at 8900rpm.
