10 questions for the Mini owner

Myth busted: The Mini Cooper owner who isn't a hairdresser!

mini101) People say only hairdressers own Minis, do you really make a living making other people’s hair look good?
Somehow this sounds familiar, wonder what’s with the association with hairdressers specifically? But no, I’m in advertising. And I can’t even make my own hair look good, let alone other people’s. So this myth is well and truly busted!

2) Now that we’ve smashed that myth, why do you think Minis are almost always bought by women? I don’t know a guy who owns a Mini, except those really old ones they restored with their bare hands
I think this is another myth. I know lots of guy Mini owners who are not hairdressers, sissies, closets or gays. They love the car and brand for what it is. And it doesn’t mean that small cars equal femininity and are bought by women.

3) Eh, I didn’t say a Mini is tiny or feminine…anyway, what did you own before the Mini, and have you always pined for one?
I owned a Honda City just before my Mini, and yes I’ve always wanted one for as long as I can remember. Of course I also fancied a lot of other cars, but the Mini always remained a constant in my list of ever changing favourites.

min14) Now that you’ve been driving your “dream” for 12 months, does it still feel as special as the day when you got the car?
Yes. In fact I think I’ve grown to love it even more. It’s much smaller in every way than my previous car, especially with only two doors. But I’ve adjusted to it and it brings me everywhere in comfort, style and most importantly, makes me happy.

5) Okay Miss Happy Mini, you chose one in red, with a dark roof. Surely it wasn’t easy to arrive at this combination?
For me, I think it was easy. I wanted something brighter and bolder than the usual boring or safe colors such as black, white or silver. And because it’s a Mini, it would look happier in brighter colors. But I also didn’t want something tooooo bright and loud. So I chose the red with black roof which I think tones down the “loudness”, yet makes it a bit easy to find just in case I forget where I parked my car!

min76) The Mini trunk is small, how many pairs of shoes do you have in there, do they all fit?
Yes, the trunk is small compared to other cars, but it has this hidden compartment that I use to store my shoes. I usually keep four pairs in their individual boxes neatly in here and still have space up top for other things. Love it!

7) Which handbag works best with the Mini?
Okay, what’s with all these questions? First hairdressers, then shoes, and now handbags? To me, anything goes with my Mini! When you choose a Mini, it already reflects who you are. So I can use/wear/don’t wear whatever I want with my Mini.

min28) Are all Mini owners this feisty…let’s move on. Major likes and dislikes about your Mini?
I like how it looks as much as how fun it is to drive, but if the Mini didn’t look the way it looks, I wouldn’t have bought it for how it drives in the first place. So yeah, definitely the looks! Can’t think of any dislikes but when I first got the car, there was a funny smell coming from the air-cond that got me a bit worried. But after a trip to the service centre and some patience, it went away and everything is all good now!

9) Imagine I gave you a voucher to choose three options to customise your Mini, which would be the three you’d choose?
i. Sun-roof/glass-roof – I’ve been in a Mini that has this option and it actually makes the inside of the car feel more spacious
ii. Roof decal – love the one that looks like a “target”
iii. Tyre valve caps – think this adds a nice touch but too bad it won’t last a day in KL before it gets stolen

min810) What’s next after the Mini? Another Mini or you’d like to try something else altogether?
Have not given much thought about this. But if I can help it, I would definitely want one of the cars in my household to be a Mini.
